Acer circinatum X palmatum 'Morton Arboretum #644-81' is a hybrid that was found during a breeding project by our friend, Sue Wiegrefe, at the Morton Arboretum. It was distributed at a National Meeting of the North American Branch of the Maple Society and became a favorite among gardeners. We have previously listed this tree as ‘Morton'. ‘Morton Arboretum #644-81’ leafs out as a dark red before maturing to green. Fall color is a bright fiery red. 'Morton' is a strong grower to 12-15 ft in 20 years. Acer circinatum x palmatum ‘Morton Arboretum #644-81’ handle the sun in the south with a circinatum leaf.
