Native Flowering Pinkshell Azalea

Rhododendron vaseyi is an Appalachian native azalea that isn’t often found in the nursery trade. In the wild it is found in certain highland locations in North Carolina. One particular spot that is famous for this Pinkshell azalea is Grandfather Mountain, where the large population puts on a great display of color.  These pink to white blooms often appear before the leaves, giving a nice dramatic effect in the early spring. Being one of the earliest blooming natives, this is a great way to add early spring interest to any landscape and garden. The blooms on rhododendron vaseyi are less funnel shaped than many of the traditional natives and are quite unique. Rhododendron vaseyi may reach 5 ft in height by 4 ft in width in 10 years. Unfortunately we may not be able to continue to offer this selection as our supplier states he will be discontinuing this azalea. Once it’s sold out, it may not be returning on MrMaple.
